Message 768 - Posted: 18 Aug 2024, 13:51:09 UTC - in response to Message 762.

Conan: can you please try resetting the project?

There were some corrupt files in the cache. We cleaned them up on our server, but there can be still some on your machines. This issue will be also fixed in the next version.

Thank you Christian, I have reset one computer that has the message that it has reached the limit of 1 task per day or something, to do with over 500 failed tasks when it reconnected two days ago, I will reset the others soon.

Thanks
Conan

I have just watched 24 work units running and saw that only 1 work unit was actually using the CPU, the other 23 were not using any CPU at all. This is after a reset. I am seeing a higher CPU usage with the next lot of work units.
So I am still getting a lot of validation errors still.
I still have 80 or so more work units on that computer so will see how they go

I am seeing the same situation on my Mac an my Raspberry Pis. Only a few tasks are actually loading the CPU thread they are running on. The rest of the tasks appear to be running, but idle. I am guessing that the idle tasks are the ones being marked as invalid upon completion. And the few tasks that look like they are running properly are the ones being marked valid.

Still far too many invalid tasks. Running over 40% now. I'll check back later. While I don't mind helping a project work out some bugs. the rate of rejects is far too great for me to put much effort into.

I noticed that even when a work unit says it is not using much CPU it still consumes the full amount of memory (1 GB+) for each work unit.

It is almost like the work units are running half CPU and half memory as some low CPU usage work units still get validated whilst others don't

There is a new app version availale and we cleaned up corrupt files in server cache. Hopefully this will reduce the validation errors.

I am back to getting many tasks that are using no CPU at all. And then they don't validate. I am not sure the fix actually fixed anything.

Sorry Christian, but not a lot changed between versions. The amount validating is up but still a lot failing, currently my AMD 5900X running Fedora 37 Linux has 49 Valid and 8 Invalid, so about 16% which is a big improvement compared to over 50% fail before.
I still have 135 more work units on that computer so will wait to see if that success/fail rate continues.

This computer also had a reset so all new files downloaded.

Thanks

I have a 100% Rate of invalid Tasks

Gültig (0) · Ungültig (268) · Fehler (0)

The affected Host is this one:https://boinc.loda-lang.org/loda/show_host_detail.php?hostid=197

a typical stderr out is:
<core_client_version>7.16.20</core_client_version>
<![CDATA[
<stderr_txt>
18:44:30 (17564): wrapper (7.7.26016): starting
18:44:30 (17564): wrapper: running ../../projects/boinc.loda-lang.org_loda/loda-240819-windows.exe (boinc -H 2)
20:44:30 (17564): loda exited; CPU time 0.187500
20:44:30 (17564): called boinc_finish(0)

</stderr_txt>
]]>

Any Hints how to remedy this Issue?

Hi Conan,
I checked your logs. There were two problems:

First, there was still a corrupt b-file in the cache which caused an error on your machine. I cleaned up again parts of our cache including this broken file.

Second, the process was hanging without CPU usage after these errors which probably resulted in the validation errors. I fixed this and published a new app version: 240823.

Sorry that you still had issues. Hope that now and with the new app version it is more stable.

Cheers,
Christian

PS: I also improved the responsiveness of the Logs page. You should be able to find details error messages there. Let me know if you find errors in the new version.

@aendgraend: you need to reinstall Git on your Windows machine (it seems to be broken because of a certifiate error). If you run into issues, please go to Computing -> Logs and check for errors.

Which version of git for windows are you using?

2.36.1

I also have GitHub installed. Not sure if that matters.

Thanks Christian,
that solved the Issue. Guess the Git Version was outdated. After a new Installation it seems to work, I can see validated WUs now.

Thanks for the Hint
