I found the work unit wu_1652456702_255_1_r1559543335_0 which seems to belong to your machine (not sure if they can get reassigned). In the logs of this WU I found this error:

sh: 1: cannot create /tmp/loda_git_tmp.txt: Read-only file system

If your /tmp is writable, then I need to add more debug logs to analyze the problem further.

Is it worth my setting any of the event log debug flags?

No, I think it needs to be added to the app. I will prepare a new app version with more debug output to analyze the problem. Will let you know when it's available.

I've been having a similar problem the last couple of weeks, not all tasks have been failing but the failure rate seems to be increasing.
So, I'm using Windows 10, found that the System temp area (C:\WINDOWS\TEMP) wasn't writable but the User area (C:\Users\account\AppData\Local\Temp) was writable. BOINC runs, on my machine, as the logged in account so should be using the User temp area, I reset the permissions on the System area anyway.
Restarted and still got the same issues, i.e. tasks failing within a few seconds with "exit code 195", see this task .
I recall seeing a post about needing to install git, something I do use already, for LODA. So I checked that out. Seems my version wasn't the most recent but also required a re-install, so I've done that.

Restarted and started running tasks since then and I still get the same error, tasks do seem to take longer to fail now. I'm running with the following:

  • BOINC: 7.20.2 (x64)
  • Windows: 10.0.19045
  • CPU: Core i5-12600KF
  • GPU: Radeon RX580 (22.5.1 drivers)

Anyone have any ideas please?

Not sure what is causing this as many things can but you can try the following

Check your LOGS (under Computing tab above) for any hints what the problem might be

Reset project

Uninstall then reinstall project

You have already checked that GIT is installed, your version of Windows should have CURL as part of it's install

Check this Thread for other solutions

Hope some of this might help

Thanks @Conan for the reply,
As you say I already have curl on Windows 10.
I've reset the project, uninstalled git - rebooted. Then installed git, using the defaults this time, rebooted and restarted the project. I can't get any project files today, as I've exceeded a limit so will pick up later.

The logs for the task say:
2022-10-26 08:17:01|ERROR|Error fetching https://raw.githubusercontent.com/loda-lang/loda-cpp/main/miners.default.json

I've verified that the PC can access that JSON. So see what happens tomorrow.

Okay the update following the software resets and re-installs I carried out, yesterday.
Because of all the errors I've been generating BOINC, not LODA, is restricting my PC to only one LODA task a day, hence this message in the logfile:
This computer has finished a daily quota of 1 tasks
If I start returning completed tasks for LODA then the quota will be gradually raised. Anyway the one task I got today failed with the same error, it did take over a minute to do so rather than just a few seconds, but that isn't pertinent to the issue.
So the last part of the logfile, for today's failed task, is:
Updating files: 100% (104467/104467), done.
curl: (35) schannel: next InitializeSecurityContext failed: Unknown error (0x80092012) - The revocation function was unable to check revocation for the certificate.
curl: (35) schannel: next InitializeSecurityContext failed: Unknown error (0x80092012) - The revocation function was unable to check revocation for the certificate.
2022-10-28 07:19:13|INFO |curl -fsSLo "D:\ProgramData\BOINC/projects/boinc.loda-lang.org_loda\miners.default.json" https://raw.githubusercontent.com/loda-lang/loda-cpp/main/miners.default.json
2022-10-28 07:19:13|ERROR|Error fetching https://raw.githubusercontent.com/loda-lang/loda-cpp/main/miners.default.json

The only information I can find round this error is that adding
-ssl-no-revoke
to the curl parameters would probably stop the error
The revocation function was unable to check revocation for the certificate
being generated and so may allow the fetch of the JSON data to succeed. But that's something for the LODA devs to look into, unless someone knows if that can be changed locally? Some override in the project preferences maybe?
I'll leave the project running but reduce the priority, not that I'll be doing much with one task a day anyway.

Cheers

I'm surprised to see this error. We introduced an insecure fall-back option already in 221019:
https://github.com/loda-lang/loda-cpp/commit/fe607e4d8843f3e7fbe1563eb27960562f9899e3
Can you please try to run tasks with the latest app version (221028) and share more logs?
